What is IPIX?IPIX is a 360 degree photograph that allows you to see an entire room just as if you were standing in the middle of it. You can look all around even up at the ceiling and down at the floor. You can zoom in and out as well. How does IPIX work? There are two different technologies that allow you to view an IPIX image:
Which method should I choose? If you don't mind installing a plug in, then this is the best choice. A plug in is permanently installed in your browser either automatically if you have a current version of Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, or manually by visiting the IPIX web site. If it automatic, then you will be presented with a certificate. If you click the button granting privileges to the browser to install the plug-in, then your work is done. Otherwise, you must install it yourself. Once I install the IPIX plug-in, will it work on other web sites too?Yes. The IPIX plug-in can be installed once on your browser and from then on, any IPIX enhanced web site in the world can be viewed in full 360 degrees panoramic vision. When would I want to use Java?If you do not want to make a permanent plug-in installation, Java is the best. How does Java work? Most browsers are Java enabled. This means that little temporary Java programs will automatically be downloaded and executed when you visit a web page with an embedded Java applet. These programs are not much different than the images and text that are contained on a page. They are downloaded to your browser cache on your hard drive, and are temporary. The advantage is that it is not a permanent feature, the disadvantage is that every time you revisit a Java IPIX web site, the chances are that you have to download the Java again. A plug-in is installed only once per browser. My company has a firewall, which works better?A firewall is simply a virtual security guard sitting at a virtual security desk. Each firewall at each company is different. If your company has configured the firewall to prevent Java applets from entering the building, then Java will not work. The plug in will probably still work, unless your company restricts plug in installations or files with an ipx suffix from entering. Try both, if neither works, ask your internet security or information services help desk. |
